La Salle County hosts household hazardous waste collection – Shaw Local

If you have household hazardous waste you need to dispose of, mark your calendar for Saturday, May 21, and register for the event.

La Salle County will be hosting a collection from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the east entrance of the La Salle County Government Center, 707 E. Etna Road, Ottawa. The event is open to all Illinois residents, but registration is not open to businesses.

Pre-registration is required. The registration link is available at www.lasallecounty.org

Accepted items include oil-based paints, household batteries, used motor oil, paint thinners, herbicides, lawn chemicals, insecticides, solvents, pesticides, antifreeze, old gasoline, hobby chemicals, pool chemicals, aerosol paints and pesticides, cleaning products, fluorescent lamp bulbs, mercury, drain cleaners, acids, corrosives and unwanted medicines.

Items not accepted include latex paint, agricultural wastes, propane tanks, business/commercial sector wastes, smoke detectors, explosives/ammunition, farm machinery oil, fireworks, fire extinguishers, controlled substances, biohazard waste/medical waste/sharps, lead acid batteries, institutional wastes, electronics and tires.

Latex paint is non-hazardous and can be safely dried or absorbed in regular trash.
