Netflix has just released an overwhelming display of new content. The streaming platform’s newest promotional material showed a myriad of new movies to absorb. Some have been long awaited sequels, but one of the more interesting additions has been Jamie Foxx’s upcoming film Day Shift. The film is being kept under wraps, but in addition to the new promo, Netflix has also released an image from the film on Twitter.

DAY SHIFT stars @iAmJamieFoxx as a hard working dad who just wants to provide a good life for his daughter, but his mundane pool cleaning job is a front for his real source of income – hunting and killing vampires. Look out for Dave Franco and @SnoopDogg who also star. pic.twitter.com/1DHiJAdRCa

The image of Jamie Foxx with long talons on the actor’s shoulder portends its interesting concept. Netflix teases that Foxx plays a blue collar father who is just trying to do right by his daughter. He cleans pools for a living but his true passion comes at night when he tracks and kills the undead. Dave Franco and Snoop Dogg are also confirmed to appear in the upcoming film.

Jamie Foxx’s fight for the living has become popular in recent years. This is in contrast to the days when vampires were romanticized and aspirational. Television series like True Blood and The Vampire Diaries flirted with the idea with attractive vampires. And no one is likely to forget the mass hysteria surrounding The Twilight Saga anytime soon (per VICE). Now it appears that it is more popular to be killing vampires than dating them.

Netflix’s Jamie Foxx film is not the only movie to portray vengeance against vampires lately. Nicholas Hoult and Nicolas Cage are slated to appear in the upcoming film Renfield. Though Cage is cast as the infamous first vampire Dracula, the film is from the perspective of his long suffering servant Renfield (Hoult). Other vampire killing movies included Vampires vs. the Bronx which premiered on Netflix in 20202. And horror master Mike Flanagan took on the true depraved nature of vampires in his limited series Midnight Mass. The seven episode series depicted a small island community that is ravaged by an epidemic of its citizens being turned into vampires (per Entertainment Weekly).

Jamie Foxx in Day Shift (2022)

Day Shift is another film that Jamie Foxx can add to his impressive streak. The actor is known to be versatile. He has starred in biopics of legends such as Ray as well as going on to appear in highly sensationalized Quentin Tarantino films. Foxx appeared as the titular character in Django Unchained, one of Tarantino’s longer forays into historical fiction. But Foxx’s newest exciting endeavor was his appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home. For a long time, the arrivals of significant characters such as Green Goblin had been kept quiet by Marvel.

Jamie Foxx as well as Willem Dafoe were among many who reprized their characters. Both had appeared as villains in previous Spider-Man franchises and came back to battle three Peter Parkers in the climactic conclusion. Foxx first fought Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. He played Electro, formally known as Max. An Oscorp employee, his life changed forever when he fell into a fat of electric eels. Spider-Man: No Way Home reported the Multiverse to bring back these characters and broke box office records previously unheard of (via Variety). Now Collider is one of the outlets that are angling for Spider-Man be considered for Oscar nomination. Marvel has apparently treated Foxx well as the actor will be seen next when Day Shift hits Netflix.
