CANTERBURY, CT – The owner of a pool installation company in Canterbury was arrested for failing to refund a customer after his pool never came, Connecticut state police said.
Roy’s Pools LLC owner Brian Roy, 40, of Sterling, turned himself in to Danielson state police Monday, where he was charged with failing to return payment for a renovation within 10 days of a written request.
The charges stem from an incident dating back to August 2020, when Roy’s Pools agreed to install a pool at the home of an unnamed Connecticut customer, police said.

The customer wrote a deposit check for $7,086.69 but reported to police that the pool was not delivered and no work was done during August and September of that year.
Roy informed the customer that the installation would be delayed to March or April 2021 due to material delays, but on April 22, 2021 the customer received an email saying the installation would not go ahead, according to police reports.

On May 20, 2021, the customer sent a “confirmed letter of formal notice” to the company asking for a refund of the deposit, but the money was not returned, police said.
A warrant was issued for Roy’s arrest and after he turned himself in, he was processed without incident, held on $10,000 court-issued bail and taken to Danielson Superior Court for a arraignment the same day.
Police said they expect more charges to be brought against him.
