Duane Michael Van Der Kamp, 59, of Ivanhoe, Virginia, passed away December 10, 2021 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
Duane was born March 29, 1962 to Donald and Freda Van Der Kamp. He was welcomed home to the family’s farm home west of Prairie City by 4 brothers and 2 sisters. His parents later moved into Prairie City. Duane graduated from Prairie City Community Schools in 1980.
Duane spent several years as a swimming pool repair technician in Des Moines and Phoenix, Arizona. After several back injuries he became an over the road truck driver until back problems caused him to retire. He loved to be in the water and was an accomplished scuba diver.
Duane was preceded in death by his parents, brother Alan Van Der Kamp and sister Donna Zepeda. He is survived by his son Michael Van Der Kamp, Dakota Van Der Kamp [Kayla Watts] of Alton, Virginia, brothers Jerry of Osceola, Carl [Pam] of Prairie City, Caryl [Penny] of Monroe, sister Joyce Near [Ken] of Urbandale, sister-in-law Lorena Van Der Kamp of Prairie City, brother-in-law John Zepeda of Runnells, several nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends. As per his wishes, there will be a cookout with burgers and brats and a very short memorial service Friday, March 11 from 5 PM to 7 PM at the Prairie City Community Building at 507 S. State St. The body has been cremated and the Ashes will be spread in the ocean. In lieu of flowers, donations may be left with the family to purchase a memorial bench.
