Taking Care of Your Intex Saltwater System
The ease of keeping a good chlorine balance in your pool is one of the most persuasive reasons to transition to a saltwater system.
It should theoretically operate on autopilot after everything is set up correctly. To some extent, this is correct.
When chlorine levels begin to drop, most systems feature an indicator that alerts you, and increasing the salt content of your pool is as simple as adding a little more salt.
Between 3000 and 3500 ppm is the usual range for proper pool hygiene (part per million). The added salt is undetectable by taste or unpleasant chlorine odors at these quantities.
When the Index saltwater system displays a “Code 91” low salt alarm, the suggested top-up quantities are shown in the table above. These are only guidelines; add slowly and monitor as the ppm readings grow.
However, we recommend performing a physical salt ppm check before adding more salt, as the salt level monitors on many intex saltwater chlorine generator brands can give false readings.
There are several causes for this, but the most prevalent is calcium buildup on the salt cell plates, which causes a misleading reading.
It’s easy to add salt but tough to take it away, as everybody who cooks knows. As a result, we prefer to start with a manual chlorine level test.
Manual salt testing kits are inexpensive and simple to use. Any saltwater pool owner’s toolkit should have them.
Finally, run the saltwater system long enough to re-establish the desired levels of system content, then reduce the duration to maintain the level.
