With the weather warming up nicely over the past few days, your thoughts may well be turning to the summer. One Leicestershire attraction that draws in the crowds every year during the summer months is Ashby Lido.
Located at Ashby Leisure Centre, it is the county’s only outdoor public swimming pool. It is run by Everyone Active – which has revealed to LeicestershireLive when it will open for the 2022 summer season.
The main date to make a note of is Saturday, May 28, which is when the pool will open for the summer season. However, before that, you’ll have the chance to take part in cold water swimming sessions from Tuesday, May 3, until Friday, May 27.

These bookable sessions, costing £5 per person, will take place daily, including weekends, between 8am and 9am. The water will still be slightly heated, but not as much as it would be for the main summer sessions.
From Saturday, May 28 until Sunday, June 5, the pool will be open from 8am until 10am for lane swimming and from 10am until 6pm for public swimming. From Monday, June 6 until Sunday, July 10, the pool will be open for lane swimming from 8am until 10am.
During these dates, the pool with be open at weekends only for public swimming, from 10am until 6pm. From Monday, July 11 until Monday, August 29, the pool will be open from 8am until 10am for lane swimming and from 10am until 6pm for public swimming.
The cost for the public swimming and lane swimming sessions will be £4.30 for adults and £2.90 for children.
There are actually two outdoor pools that make up the lido – the main 30m by 10m main pool and a smaller 10m by 6m pool. There is also a new ‘Ashby-by-the-Sea’ sandpit feature and a /catering hub’ serving refreshments – both of which launched last year.
